$900,000 Medical Malpractice Settlement for Anesthesia Death of 39-Year-Old Woman
SRBC partner David Barry has obtained a $900,000 settlement for the estate of a 39-year-old woman who died after undergoing surgery to remove uterine fibroids. The patient suffered from hypertension, diabetes, moderate obesity and end-stage renal disease, for which she had been on dialysis for six months before the operation. Her estate claimed that the anesthesiologists who assisted in the surgery were negligent in allowing the patientís blood pressure and heart rate to drop to dangerously low levels, leading to inadequate blood flow and loss of oxygen to her brain. The patient never regained consciousness and died six days after the operation. The case settled at mediation. For more, see the attached Settlement Report.
