Andrew Levin is a partner and the co-chair of the product liability practice group at Sugarman, Rogers, Barshak & Cohen, and also serves on the firm’s Executive Committee. His practice focuses on civil litigation matters with particular emphasis on product liability defense, general commercial litigation and professional malpractice.
Andy is a trial attorney who has represented clients at both the trial and appellate levels, but also recognizes that some cases can be resolved by means of arbitration or mediation. Andy prepares matters with his clients’ best interest in mind, and is not afraid to continue in Sugarman Roger’s long standing history of successfully trying, and winning, cases.
Before joining Sugarman Rogers, Andy was an associate in the litigation department of Goodwin Procter LLP, a large Boston-based general practice firm. While at Goodwin, Andy served a term as a Special Assistant District Attorney in Middlesex County, where he received substantial trial experience.
Andy’s experience in product liability matters has included serving as counsel for national and international manufacturers and distributors of automobiles, gas valves, industrial machinery, power tools, ladders and various other consumer products. He has represented them in state and federal courts throughout New England in claims involving catastrophic injuries and significant property damage allegedly caused by design or manufacturing defects and failure to warn.
Andy has represented a wide variety of public and private U.S. and international corporations and individuals in commercial litigation and arbitration. Among the matters he has recently successfully litigated: Andy obtained a significant settlement for a product manufacturer in a breach of contract and breach of warranty action against a parts supplier; he obtained a $750,000 arbitration award on behalf of the former partner of a law firm who claimed that he had been denied benefits to which he was entitled upon his departure from the firm; and he successfully represented a client in an action against its former president in a dispute arising out of the president’s departure from the company.
In the area of professional liability, Andy has defended attorneys against claims for malpractice and recently obtained the dismissal of a legal malpractice claim arising out of the failure of a multi-million dollar real estate development project.
Andy lives in Hanover, Massachusetts with his wife, Hilary, who is also an attorney and their three children, Gus, Nathan and Piper.
