Practice Areas:

Tony Doniger concentrates his practice in complex business, probate, domestic relations and professional liability litigation.  He has extensive experience in the Massachusetts trial and appellate courts, and in mediation and arbitration.  He regularly represents clients in commercial disputes, intellectual property matters involving claims of trademark and copyright infringement and unfair competition, employer/employee disputes, and complex domestic relations matters.  

Tony’s clients include major national and international corporations, non-profit institutions and associations, and individuals engaged in manufacturing, banking, technology, real estate, the arts, investment, and professional services.  

In addition to his litigation practice, Tony has been a visiting lecturer in Law at Babson College Graduate School of Business Administration and a visiting instructor at the Harvard Law School Trial Advocacy Program.  He is also a frequent lecturer for Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Inc. and local bar associations on matters of trial practice and evidence.

Doniger: Philosophy of Alimony Changing

An article in Lawyers USA, discussing changes afoot in various states' alimony laws, includes an interview with SRBC partner Tony Doniger. Tony discusses the recent landmark Massachusetts case Pierce v. Pierce, in which he represented the husband, and he observes: "The philosophy of alimony is changing. Societal expectations and norms have evolved over the years and the theory of alimony should evolve as well."

Tony Doniger to Speak on Pierce Decision

SRBC partner Tony Doniger will be a panelist at the Boston Bar Association program "Alimony Post-Pierce: Thoughts, Reactions, and Where Do We Go From Here?" on Wednesday, December 9, 2009. Tony will discuss the recent decision of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court on the continuing alimony obligations of retiring spouses. (Tony represented the husband in the case.) In addition to the decision, the panelists will discuss recommendations of the Massachusetts and Boston Bar Associations' Alimony Task Force, the possible ramifications of pending alimony legislation, and issues for practitioners to consider as to alimony and retirement.

Tony Doniger Named to Board of Boston Bar Foundation
SRBC partner Tony Doniger was recently named to the Board of Trustees of the Boston Bar Foundation for the 2009-2010 term. The BBF is the charitable arm of the Boston Bar Association. It supports increased access to justice, improved understanding of the legal system, and utilizing the efforts of lawyers to assist the needy in their community.

Ten SRBC Partners Named Best Lawyers in America

Ten SRBC partners have been named to the 2010 edition of The Best Lawyers in America, which describes itself as "the oldest and most respected peer-review publication in the legal profession," designed to help lawyers and clients find legal counsel in unfamiliar places or specialties. This year's selections are based on more than 2.8 million peer-review surveys. Among the highlights for SRBC this year are Tony Doniger's recognition in the category of "bet-the-company litigation," and Natasha Lisman's recognition for her work in alternative dispute resolution.

Boston Bar Association Releases Report on Civil Right to Counsel
The Boston Bar Association has released a report of its task force on expanding the right to counsel for indigent litigants in civil cases. SRBC partner Tony Doniger, who completed his term as president of the BBA on September 1, strongly supported the "civil right to counsel" initiative during his administration.
